A cursory scan on the reports published by the Department of Health Regional office showed that recurrence of Covid-19 cases can easily be pinpointed to particular barangays. The data also shows whether the cases are locally transmitted or not. In fact most of the cases are locally transmitted.
The data should help local authorities including those tasked to monitor health protocols violators.
The daily tally includes tabulations of cases and we are wondering whether these are properly monitored if so, are the barangay officials aware they are being swamped by cases.
Pres. Rodrigo Duterte had issued a stern warning to barangay functionaries who are remiss in their job saying he has ordered the Department of Interior and Local Government to arrest, detain and file cases against barangay captain and violators who flagrantly disregard the simple health protocols.
In Davao City, using the data published by DoH Davao Region, it can easily be gleaned who among the barangay captains are up to their job and who are non-performing assets.
As the saying goes “Either they shape up or be shipped out”. This should be done pronto especially with the rising cases in Region. (Jun Ledesma)
